THE GATHERING
Hymn
I
heard the voice of Jesus say,
I
heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Come unto me and rest;
lay down, O weary one, lay down
your head upon my breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
weary and worn and sad;
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.
"Come unto me and rest;
lay down, O weary one, lay down
your head upon my breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
weary and worn and sad;
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.
I
heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Behold, I freely give
the living water; thirsty one,
stoop down and drink, and live."
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.
"Behold, I freely give
the living water; thirsty one,
stoop down and drink, and live."
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.
I
heard the voice of Jesus say,
"I
am this dark world's Light;
look
unto me, your morn shall rise,
and
all your days be bright."
I
looked to Jesus and I found
in
him my Star, my Sun;
and
in that light of life I'll walk,
'til
travelling days are done.

The Celebrant prays the Collect set for the day
LITURGY OF THE WORD
First
reading
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
On the day of Pentecost Peter stood up with the
Eleven and addressed the crowd in a loud voice: ‘The whole House of Israel can
be certain that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and
Christ.’
Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said
to Peter and the apostles, ‘What must we do, brothers?’ ‘You must repent,’
Peter answered ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for
all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God will call to
himself.’ He spoke to them for a long time using many arguments, and he urged them,
‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation.’ They were convinced by his
arguments, and they accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day
about three thousand were added to their number.
[Acts 2:14,36-41]
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
Second
reading
A reading from the First Letter of St Peter.
You have come back to the shepherd of your souls
The merit, in the sight of God, is in bearing
punishment patiently when you are punished after doing your duty.
This, in fact, is what you were called to do,
because Christ suffered for you and left an example for you to follow the way
he took. He had not done anything wrong, and there had been no perjury in his
mouth. He was insulted and did not retaliate with insults; when he was tortured
he made no threats but he put his trust in the righteous judge. He was bearing
our faults in his own body on the cross, so that we might die to our faults and
live for holiness; through his wounds you have been healed. You had gone astray
like sheep but now you have come back to the shepherd and guardian of your
souls.
[1 Peter 2:20-25]
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
Hymn
The
King of love my shepherd is,
The
King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never.
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine forever.
whose goodness faileth never.
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine forever.
Where
streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth;
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.
my ransomed soul he leadeth;
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.
Perverse
and foolish, oft I strayed,
but yet in love he sought me;
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.
but yet in love he sought me;
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.
In
death's dark vale I fear no ill,
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.
Thou
spreadst a table in my sight;
thy unction grace bestoweth;
and oh, what transport of delight
from thy pure chalice floweth!
thy unction grace bestoweth;
and oh, what transport of delight
from thy pure chalice floweth!
And
so through all the length of days,
thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house forever.
thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house forever.

set to music]

Gospel
reading
The Celebrant announces the Gospel using the
acclamation
proper to the season then introduces the Gospel
with these words
Alleluia, alleluia!
I am the good shepherd, says the Lord;
I know my own sheep and my own know me.
Alleluia!
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according
to St. John.
All Glory to you O Lord.
Jesus said: ‘I tell you most solemnly, anyone who
does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but gets in some other way is a
thief and a brigand. The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the
flock; the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he
calls his own sheep and leads them out. When he has brought out his flock, he goes
ahead of them, and the sheep follow because they know his voice. They never
follow a stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of
strangers.’
Jesus told them this parable but they failed to
understand what he meant by telling it to them.
So Jesus spoke to them again:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
I am the gate of the sheepfold.
All others who have come
are thieves and brigands;
but the sheep took no notice of them.
I am the gate.
Anyone who enters through me will be safe:
he will go freely in and out
and be sure of finding pasture.
The thief comes
only to steal and kill and destroy.
I have come
so that they may have life and have it to the
full.’
[John 10:1-10]
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.

Look upon your flock, kind Shepherd,
and be pleased to settle in eternal pastures
the sheep you have redeemed
by the Precious Blood of your Son.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
All Father

who drink his cup bring life to others;
we

THE DISMISSAL
Notices
Regina Caeli
May is a month traditionally devoted to the Blessed Virgin,
and in some churches the statue of the Blessed Virgin is crowned with flowers
during the month of May. In others a statue is also processed around the Parish.
In Walsingham, traditionally known as England’s Nazareth because of its
association with the Blessed Virgin and because it contains a copy of the holy house
where Jesus grew up, a special celebration is held each Whitsun bank holiday,
with processions, Masses and special services.
To mark the beginning of this month dedicated to Mary we’re
going to ask for her intercessions as we sing her praises in the words of the Regina
Caeli, which is sung to the tune ‘Jesus Christ is risen to day’:
Joy to thee, O Queen of Heaven. Alleluia!
He whom Thou wast meet to bear. Alleluia!
As He promised hath arisen. Alleluia!
Pour for us to God thy prayer. Alleluia!
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
For
the Lord is risen indeed, alleluia.
Let us pray:
O God,
who through the resurrection of Thy Son our Lord Jesus
Christ
didst vouchsafe to give joy to the world:
grant, we beseech thee, that through His Mother, the Virgin
Mary,
we may obtain the joys of everlasting life.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymn
All
hail the power of Jesus’ name!
All
hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
To crown Him Lord of all.
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
To crown Him Lord of all.
Crown
Him, ye morning stars of light,
Who fixed this floating ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Who fixed this floating ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Crown
Him, ye martyrs of your God,
Who from His altar call;
Praise him whose way of pain ye trod
Who from His altar call;
Praise him whose way of pain ye trod
And
crown Him Lord of all.
Ye seed of Israel’s
chosen race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him, ye heirs of
David’s line,
Whom David Lord did call,
Whom David Lord did call,
The
God incarnate, Man divine,
And crown Him Lord of all,
And crown Him Lord of all,
Sinners, whose love
can ne’er forget
The wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
And crown Him Lord of all.
The wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Let every tribe and
every tongue
Before Him prostrate fall
And shout in universal song
And crown Him Lord of all.
Before Him prostrate fall
And shout in universal song
And crown Him Lord of all.
