The Mardyke team of churches
Liturgy of the Mass

THE GATHERING
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All       Amen.

The Lord be with you.
All       And also with you.

Prayer of Confession
My friends, let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

All    Almighty God,
our heavenly Father,
we have sinned against you,
through our own fault,
in thought, and word, and deed,
and in what we have left undone.
We are heartily sorry,
and repent of all our sins.
For your Son
our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you
in newness of life
to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All       Amen.

The Collect
Let is pray.

Lord of all power and might,
the author and giver of all good things:
graft in our hearts the love of your name,
increase in us true religion,
nourish us with all goodness,
and of your great mercy keep us in the same;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All       Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
First reading

A reading from the first book of Kings.

At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, ‘Ask what I should give you.’ And Solomon said, ‘You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant my father David, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart towards you; and you have kept for him this great and steadfast love, and have given him a son to sit on his throne today. And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, although I am only a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people, so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this your great people?’ It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. God said to him, ‘Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches, or for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, I now do according to your word. Indeed I give you a wise and discerning mind; no one like you has been before you and no one like you shall arise after you.’
[1 Kings 3.5-12]

This is the word of the Lord.
All        Thanks be to God.

The Gospel
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to St Matthew.
All        Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus put before the crowd another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’

He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Have you understood all this?’ They answered, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’
[Matthew 13.31-33, 44-52]

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All       Praise to you, O Christ.

Affirmation of Faith
Let us declare our faith
in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

All       Christ died for our sins
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he was buried;
he was raised to life on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures;
afterwards he appeared
to his followers,
and to all the apostles:
this we have received,
and this we believe.
Amen.

Prayers of Intercession
This response is used
Lord, in your mercy
All hear our prayer.
And at the end
Merciful Father,
All       accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT
The Peace
God is love, and those who live in love
live in God and God lives in them.

The peace of the Lord be always with you
All        and also with you.

Prayer over the gifts
As the grain once scattered in the fields
and the grapes once dispersed on the hillside
are now reunited on this table in bread and wine,
so, Lord, may your whole Church soon be gathered together
from the corners of the earth
into your kingdom.
All        Amen.

The Eucharistic Prayer
The Lord be with you
All        and also with you.

Lift up your hearts.
All        We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All       It is right to give thanks and praise.

Father, you made the world and love your creation.
You gave your Son Jesus Christ to be our Saviour.
His dying and rising have set us free from sin and death.
By your Holy Spirit you make us your friends.
And so we gladly thank you,
with saints and angels praising you, and saying:

All       Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We praise and bless you, loving Father
through Jesus Christ, our Lord;
and as we obey his command,
send your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts
that broken bread and wine out-poured
may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.

On the night before he died he had supper with his friends,
and taking bread, he praised you.
He broke the bread, shared it with them and said:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.

When supper was ended he took a cup of wine.
Again he gave you thanks, shared it and said:
Drink this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.

So, Father, as we remember all that Jesus did,
we plead with confidence his sacrifice
made once for all upon the cross.
Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation,
we proclaim his death and resurrection
until he comes in glory.

Great is the mystery of faith:
All       Christ has died:
Christ is risen:
Christ will come again.

Lord of all life,
help us to work together for that day
when your justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth,
and your kingdom comes.
Look with favour on your people,
gather us in your loving arms
and bring us with St Michael, St Nicholas, St Stephen
and all the saints to be with you for ever at your table in heaven.

Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father,
for ever and ever.
All       Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All       Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the bread
We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ
All       Though we are many,
we are one body,
because we all share in one bread.

The Agnus Dei
All       Jesus, Lamb of God,
have mercy on us.

Jesus, bearer of our sins,
have mercy on us.

Jesus, redeemer of the world,
grant us peace.

Behold the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper.
All       Lord I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word,
and my soul shall be healed.

Post Communion Prayer
Let us pray.

Lord God, whose Son is the true vine and the source of life,
ever giving himself that the world may live:
may we so receive within ourselves
the power of his death and passion
that, in his saving cup,
we may share his glory and be made perfect in his love;
for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever.
All       Amen.

All        Almighty God,
we thank you for feeding us
with the body and blood
of your Son Jesus Christ.
Through him we
offer you our souls and bodies
to be a living sacrifice.
Send us out in the
power of your Spirit
to live and work to
your praise and glory. Amen.

Notices, Banns etc.

THE DISMISSAL
The blessing
The Lord be with you.
All       And also with you.

The peace of God, which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
All       Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
All       In the name of Christ. Amen.
