Christingle Service
Greeting
We watch for the
light if Christ dawning on Christmas Day.
We are in
darkness now, but the Lord will give us light.
All: O Lord you give us light.
You dispel our
darkness.
Carol:
Hark the herald-angels sing
Hark! The
herald-angels sing
"Glory to
the newborn king;
Peace on earth
and mercy mild,
God and sinners
reconciled"
Joyful all ye
nations rise,
Join the triumph
of the skies
With the angelic
host proclaim
"Christ is
born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The
herald-angels sing
"Glory to
the new-born king"
Christ, by
highest heaven adored
Christ, the
everlasting Lord,
Late in time
behold Him come
Offspring of a
Virgin's womb:
Veiled in flesh
the Godhead see,
Hail the
incarnate Deity
Pleased as man
with man to dwell
Jesus, our
Emmanuel
Hark! The
herald-angels sing
"Glory to
the newborn King"
Hail the
Heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of
Righteousness![10]
Light and life
to all He brings,
Risen with
healing in His wings;
Mild He lays His
glory by
Born that man no
more may die
Born to raise
the sons of earth
Born to give
them second birth
Hark! The herald
angels sing
"Glory to
the new-born king"
Readings
A reading from
the Prophecy of Isaiah.
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—
on them light has shined.
For a child has been born for us,
a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
and he is named
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His authority shall grow continually,
and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom.
He will establish and uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time onwards and for evermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
[Isaiah 9.2, 6-7]
Carol: See him lying on
a bed of straw
See him lying on a bed of straw:
a draughty stable with an open door;
Mary cradling the babe she bore
the prince of glory is his name.
O now carry me to Bethlehem
to see the Lord of love again:
just as poor as was the stable then,
the prince of glory when he came.
Star of silver, sweep across the skies,
show where Jesus in the manger lies;
shepherds, swiftly from your stupor rise
to see the saviour of the world!
O now carry me to Bethlehem
to see the Lord of love again:
just as poor as was the stable then,
the prince of glory when he came.
Angels, sing again the song you sang,
sing the glory of God's gracious plan;
Sing that Bethl'em's little baby can
be the saviour of us all.
O now carry me to Bethlehem
to see the Lord of love again:
just as poor as was the stable then,
the prince of glory when he came.

Hymns 9 9 9 8 Irregular and Refrain
A reading from the Gospel according to St Luke.
In that region there were shepherds
living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of
the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for see—I am
bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who
is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in
bands of cloth and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom he
favours!’
Making the Christingle
and Talk
Carol: Away in a manger
Away in a manger
No crib for a bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky
Looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing
The Baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes
I love You, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side
Until morning is nigh
Be near me, Lord Jesus
I ask You to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray
Bless all the dear children
In Your tender care
And fit us for heaven
To live with You there
Prayers
Lord Jesus, light
of the world,
as we think
about the meaning of the Christingle
and remember
your great love for us,
may we be lights
in the world, bearing your love to other people.
Help us to care
for creation and our neighbours;
watch over the
sick, bless those who are weary,
and guide those
who have lost their way.
We make our
prayer through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
The
Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour Christ has taught us,
so we are bold to pray,
All Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is kingdom, the power, and the glory
forever and for ever.
Amen.
Closing
Blessing
May the joy of
the angels,
The eagerness of
the shepherds,
The perseverance
of the Magi
The obedience of
Mary and Joseph
And the peace of the Christ child be yours;
And the blessing
of God almighty,
The Father, The
Son and the Holy Spirit
be with you and
watch over you, this day and forever. Amen
All: Amen
Carol:
O come all ye faithful
O come all ye
faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him born the King of Angels;
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
God of God,
Light of light,
Lo! he abhors not the Virgin's womb;
Very God, Begotten not created,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
See how the
shepherds,
Summoned to his cradle,
Leaving their flocks, draw nigh with lowly fear;
We too will thither bend our joyful footsteps:
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs
of angels,
sing in exultation!
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above,
'Glory to God in the highest!'
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him,
Christ the Lord.
The
Dismissal
Let us go in the light of Christ
To bring his light to all whom we meet.
All: With help of God. Amen.
